FAQs
eSIM only runs on phones with an embedded SIM chip built into the hardware at the factory. Compatible models include iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and Google Pixel 2 and newer. Phones from before 2018 and most budget Android models do not have this chip. HelloRoam works on any carrier-unlocked eSIM supported phone on the device list.
Your phone shows eSIM support in the settings menu. On iPhone, go to Settings, then General, then About, and look for an EID number. On Android, dial *#06# and check for an EID alongside your IMEI. An EID confirms your device has the eSIM chip. Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked to install a HelloRoam plan.
Older phones cannot use eSIM. The chip must be built in at the factory. Devices released before 2018, such as iPhone X and earlier and Samsung Galaxy S10 and earlier, do not have the hardware and cannot gain eSIM support through any software update. To use HelloRoam, you need an eSIM supported phone from 2018 or later.
Not every iPhone has eSIM. Support starts with the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR from September 2018, and every model from the iPhone 11 through the 16 series includes it. The iPhone SE (2nd generation, 2020) and SE (3rd generation, 2022) also support eSIM. iPhone X, 8, 7, and 6 do not. Any i phone released from September 2018 onward supports eSIM. iPhones bought in mainland China and some Hong Kong models lack eSIM even on newer versions.
Google Pixel phones support eSIM starting from the Pixel 2. Every model from the Pixel 2 through the Pixel 10, including the Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro series, supports eSIM. The GSMA certifies Pixel phones for eSIM use. Pixel 7 and newer can run two eSIMs at once without a physical SIM card. Your Pixel must be carrier-unlocked to install a HelloRoam plan.
The Honor 200 Lite does not support eSIM. Honor limits eSIM to select flagship models in markets outside China. Budget and mid-range Honor devices, including the 200 Lite, use physical SIM cards only. You need a different eSIM compatible device to use HelloRoam. The Honor 50 does not support eSIM in most markets. Honor restricts eSIM to select premium models sold outside China. The Honor 50 uses a physical dual SIM setup instead. If you're travelling from Canada to Paris, Tokyo, or Cancun and need data abroad, you need an eSIM compatible phone to use a HelloRoam plan.
iPhone 13 supports eSIM on all four models: iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max. Apple made the iPhone 13 the first to run two active eSIMs at the same time without a physical SIM. HelloRoam eSIM plans work on iPhone 13 across 175+ countries. Your iPhone 13 must be carrier-unlocked to install a third-party eSIM plan.
iPhone supports eSIM starting from the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR released in September 2018. Every model from the iPhone 11 through the 16 series includes eSIM, and the iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) does too. What iphones support esim? The LG V40 ThinQ does not support eSIM. LG never put eSIM hardware into the V40 or any V-series model. LG left the smartphone market in 2021, so no future update can add eSIM support. To use a HelloRoam travel eSIM, you need a phone with eSIM hardware from Apple, Samsung, Google, or another brand on the supported list.
Confirming eSIM compatibility takes about 30 seconds. On iPhone, open Settings, tap General, tap About, and look for an EID number near the IMEI.
