FAQs
eSIM runs only on phones with an embedded SIM chip built in at the factory. These include iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and Google Pixel 2 and newer. eSIM compatibility shows in your phone settings. On iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About, and look for an EID number. On Android, dial *#06# and check whether an EID appears beside your IMEI. An EID confirms the embedded SIM chip is present. Your handset must also be carrier-unlocked to install a HelloRoam e-sim plan.
Phones made before 2018 cannot use eSIM. The e-sim chip must be built into the device during manufacturing and no software update can add it later. Phones like the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and Samsung Galaxy S10 do not have this hardware. To use a HelloRoam eSIM plan, you need a compatible handset from 2018 onwards.
Apple introduced eSIM with the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR in September 2018. Every model from iPhone 11 through iPhone 16 includes eSIM, as do the iPhone SE 2nd gen and SE 3rd gen. The Honor 200 Lite does not support eSIM. Honor limits eSIM to select flagship models sold outside China. Budget and mid-range Honor handsets, including the 200 Lite, use a physical SIM card only. If you are heading to the USA, Australia, or Thailand, you need an eSIM compatible device from the list on this page to use a HelloRoam plan.
The Honor 50 does not support eSIM in most markets. Honor reserves embedded SIM hardware for select high-end models outside China. The Honor 50 uses a physical dual SIM tray. If you are heading to New York, Tokyo, or Bangkok and need data, you need an eSIM compatible phone to pick up a HelloRoam plan.
iPhone 13 supports eSIM across all four models: iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max. Apple made the 13 series the first to run two active eSIMs without a physical SIM card. The LG V40 ThinQ does not support eSIM. LG never added eSIM hardware to the V40 or any model in the V series. LG left the smartphone market in 2021, so no future update will add eSIM support. To use a HelloRoam travel plan, you need a phone with eSIM hardware from Apple, Samsung, Google, or another supported brand on our list.

The LG V60 ThinQ does not support eSIM. LG did not include the embedded SIM chip in the V60 or any other model in its V series. LG stopped making smartphones in 2021, so no future software update can change this. If you need data on a trip to the US, Canada, or Japan, you need a phone from Apple, Samsung, Google, or another brand on the eSIM supported phones list.
