Airalo charges by the gigabyte through fixed Airalo eSIM data plans rather than a flat per-GB rate. Small Airalo eSIM plans (1-2GB) start affordably for popular destinations. Larger packages cost more upfront but less per GB. HelloRoam also offers fixed data plans but adds unlimited daily plans for trips where per-GB pricing adds up fast.

Airalo offers unlimited data plans with fair-use throttling in select markets. Most Airalo eSIM plans are still fixed data packages, so once you use your data, you need to buy another package or use an Airalo code to top up. For most travel, yes. An eSIM installs by QR code before you fly, so there's no shop visit, no swapping a tiny physical card, and no risk of losing your home SIM. Both HelloRoam and Airalo run on the GSMA eSIM standard, giving you local network speeds at your destination without a roaming add-on from your Irish carrier.

Airalo occasionally runs discount codes and promotions, though availability changes. HelloRoam doesn't rely on discount codes, plans start at €0.89 with no hidden charges, so what you see at checkout is what you pay.

Airalo's European regional plans bundle multiple countries into one package, useful for a multi-stop trip through Spain, France, and Italy. Pricing depends on data size and duration. HelloRoam covers Europe too: its 1GB Europe regional plan costs €3.45, and unlimited daily plans suit longer stays.

Airalo's main drawbacks are fixed per-destination data packages, with unlimited data offered only in limited regions.
