On a trip to Europe, my hotel Wi-Fi was so slow and outside Wi-Fi was unreliable. I couldn’t take it anymore so I got helloroam for a few days. It was tricky to set up correctly because of the primary settings (with my original number). But I reached out to their customer service via WhatsApp. Super responsive and helpful, with specific and clear steps to troubleshoot. Keep your primary SIM active for calls and your Canadian number while the HelloRoam eSIM card handles data. Some plans include a local number, so check each plan page before buying.

Do you keep your phone number with an eSIM?

Your Canadian phone number stays on your primary SIM when you add a HelloRoam eSIM for travel data. Most eSIM compatible phones run dual SIM, so your Canadian number stays active on one line while HelloRoam handles data on the other. Turn off mobile data on your primary SIM before crossing the border to avoid unexpected charges from Rogers, Bell, or Telus.

Can I have two eSIMs on one phone?

Many eSIM compatible phones store two or more profiles at once. iPhones from the XS (2018) onward, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, and Google Pixel 3 and later all support multiple eSIM profiles. You can switch between plans as you travel. An eSIM profile cannot be transferred to another device once installed. Contact HelloRoam support if you change phones to ask about reinstall options.
