Setting Up an eSIM on Your Samsung Galaxy

Putting an eSIM on your Samsung Galaxy is easy: open Settings › Connections › SIM manager, tap Add eSIM › Scan QR code, then scan the QR code in your HelloRoam email. It takes about 2 minutes at home, and you switch it on once you land.

Open Settings › Connections, then tap SIM manager.
On older One UI versions, SIM manager may show up as 'SIM card manager' under Settings > Connections. Add eSIM may show up as 'Add mobile plan'. Other buttons may differ too, so follow the prompts on your screen.
Tap Add eSIM.
Tap Scan QR code to open the scanner.
Point your Galaxy camera at the QR code on your second screen.
Show the code on a bright screen and fit the whole code inside the box.
Wait while your Galaxy reads the code. It then asks if you want to add the eSIM.
Tap Add to add the eSIM. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads, which can take a few minutes.
Tap eSIM 1 and name it HelloRoam. Then under Preferred SIMs, set Mobile data to HelloRoam.

Tap Add to add the eSIM. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads, which can take a few minutes.

Tap Add eSIM.
Tap Scan QR code. The scanner opens, but you won't scan.
On the scanner screen, tap Enter activation code.
Copy the full activation code from your HelloRoam email and paste it into the field. Submit it and wait a moment. The code looks like this: LPA:1$operator.com$ABCDE-12345
Paste, don't type. One wrong character and the code is refused.
When your Galaxy asks to add the eSIM, tap Add. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads.
Tap eSIM 1 and name it HelloRoam. Then set Mobile data to HelloRoam.

How to activate your Samsung eSIM

When you land, switch on the HelloRoam line in SIM manager, then in Mobile networks turn Data roaming on for HelloRoam and off for SIM 1, your home SIM.

Head into Settings, tap Connections, then tap SIM manager to find your HelloRoam eSIM profile waiting there.
Switch on the HelloRoam line. Then in Mobile networks, turn on Data roaming.
On some US carrier phones, you'll see this switch called Data Roaming Access instead.
In Mobile networks, pick SIM 1, your home SIM. Switch off Data roaming. Then your home provider can't charge you for roaming.
Your eSIM is live. Open any app to confirm data is flowing.

Good to know

Turn on Airplane mode first, then switch on Wi-Fi. This stops your home carrier (Spark, One NZ, 2degrees) from hitting you with roaming charges.
Wait until you land before activating. The eSIM needs a local network to connect to, whether you're touching down in Bali, Tokyo, or London.

Check your Galaxy eSIM is up and running

Two quick ways to check:

Check the status bar. You should see at least one signal bar sitting next to your HelloRoam line.

Open Settings › Connections › Mobile networks. Check that Data roaming is on for HelloRoam.

The questions Galaxy owners ask most before and after they install.

We checked these steps on One UI 7 and One UI 8 against Samsung Support.

Which Samsung Galaxy models support eSIM?

Samsung's eSIM list runs from the Galaxy S20 to the S26 series, including the S25 Edge and the S23 FE up to the S26 FE. It also covers the foldables, from the original Galaxy Fold and Z Flip through to the Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Flip8, Z Flip7 FE and Z TriFold. Samsung US lists the Note 20 series too. On the Galaxy A side, eSIM comes on the A57, A56, A55, A54 and A37, though some only work in certain regions. Cellular Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S10 and Tab S11 tablets have eSIM as well. Samsung says a phone's country of origin can still rule out eSIM, so check SIM manager for Add eSIM before you buy a plan.

Where is SIM manager on Samsung Galaxy?

On most Galaxy phones you'll find SIM manager under Settings > Connections > SIM manager. Older One UI versions call it SIM card manager, in the same spot. If it's not showing, type SIM manager into the Settings search bar and it'll come straight up.

Can I install eSIM on Samsung without QR code?

Yes, manual entry skips the QR code altogether. Head to Settings > Connections > SIM manager, tap Add eSIM, then Scan QR code, then Enter activation code. Paste the whole activation code from your HelloRoam confirmation email and tap Add. That email reaches your inbox within 5 minutes of buying your plan.

Does Samsung Galaxy S24 support dual eSIM?

The Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra all run Dual SIM with one physical SIM plus one eSIM, what Samsung calls Hybrid eSIM. The S25 and S26 series work the same way. Keep your home SIM in the tray, add HelloRoam as the eSIM, and your home number stays live while HelloRoam handles your data. Manage both lines at Settings > Connections > SIM manager.

Why is my Samsung not reading the eSIM QR code?

Try these 4 fixes if your Samsung won't read the eSIM QR code: update One UI, check the phone is carrier-unlocked, give the camera lens a wipe, and scan in good light about 15 cm away. None of that working? Switch to manual entry. Open SIM manager, tap Add eSIM, tap Scan QR code, then tap Enter activation code. Paste in the full activation code from your HelloRoam email. Which Samsung phones do not support eSIM?

These Galaxy phones use two physical SIM cards and don't feature on Samsung's eSIM list: the S20 FE, S21 FE, A02, A03, A12, A13 LTE, A13 5G, A14 5G, A15 5G, A32 5G, A42 5G, A52 5G and A53 5G. Samsung US lists them as Dual Physical SIM models. Samsung also says a listed model can still miss out on eSIM depending on its country of origin. To check your own Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > SIM manager. If Add eSIM shows up, it can take a HelloRoam eSIM. If it doesn't, that phone can't add an eSIM.

How do I transfer eSIM from iPhone to Samsung?

You can't move a HelloRoam eSIM from iPhone to Samsung once it's installed. Scanning the QR code again on the Samsung won't work, and the phone's own transfer feature won't work either. Don't delete the eSIM from your iPhone. Before its first connection to a network your plan covers at your destination, email help@helloroam.com. Installing it at home doesn't count as that first connection. We can issue a new eSIM. If we do, add it on the Samsung at Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM. Once that first connection happens, the code can't be used again, and we don't issue a new one just because you've changed phones.

My Samsung shows 'European SIM card only'. Can I still use eSIM?

It depends on your phone, so check before you buy a plan. Samsung says a Galaxy model on its eSIM list might still miss out on eSIM, depending on its country of origin. Open Settings > Connections > SIM manager. If Add eSIM shows up, you're sorted: install your HelloRoam eSIM there. If there's no Add eSIM option, this phone can't add one.

Which Galaxy A phones have eSIM?

Samsung's eSIM list covers the Galaxy A57, A56, A55 and A37 everywhere, with no region limit. The A54 only has eSIM in Europe, North America, Korea and Japan, and the A36 and A35 only in Europe, North America and Korea. The A27, A26, A17 5G and A16 5G only have eSIM in North America, and the A25 5G and A23 5G only in Japan. Older models like the A15 5G and A53 5G use two physical SIM cards instead. To check your own Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > SIM manager and look for Add eSIM.

How do I check eSIM data usage on a Samsung Galaxy?

Open Settings, tap Connections, then Data usage, then Mobile data usage to see which apps are using the most data. Your Galaxy counts from the start of the billing cycle you've set under Billing cycle and data warning, not from the day your HelloRoam plan kicked off. To see how much data your plan has left, open the HelloRoam app and check the My eSIM tab.
