A few things to know before you scan the QR code:
- •Open the QR code on a second device (your laptop or another phone) before you start scanning.
- •Stay on Wi-Fi the entire time. Losing connection mid-install can cause errors.
- •Each QR code works for one scan only. After a successful scan, the code expires and cannot be used again.
- •Do not delete the eSIM after you install it. An eSIM is not transferable between devices once installed, so deleting it means losing your plan.

A few things to know before you start the manual install:
- •Each manual activation code is single-use. Don't share it and don't enter it twice.
- •Keep a stable Wi-Fi connection the whole time. A dropped connection can interrupt the install.
- •This eSIM locks to your device once you install it. It is not transferable to another phone, so do not remove it unless you no longer need it.

Samsung Galaxy Tips Worth Knowing
- OneUI 6.0+ UsersOn OneUI 6.0+, SIM Manager may show as 'SIM card manager' under Settings > Connections. Same place, slightly different label.
- Dual eSIM SupportGalaxy S24 supports two active eSIMs at the same time. Keep your NZ number live while running a travel data plan in Thailand or the UK.
- Update FirstRunning the latest OneUI version cuts down on eSIM errors. Update your Galaxy before you head off on your trip.
FAQs
eSIM compatible Samsung phones include the Galaxy S20 through S24 (Plus, Ultra, and FE variants), Z Fold 2 to Z Fold 5, Z Flip through Z Flip 5, and Note 20 series. Your phone needs OneUI 3.0 or later (Android 11 or above) to run an eSIM. Most budget A-series models skip the eSIM hardware, so double-check your specs before buying a plan. HelloRoam works on all eSIM-capable Samsung phones across 175+ countries.
SIM Manager on Samsung Galaxy lives at Settings > Connections > SIM Manager. On OneUI 6.0 and newer it may show as SIM card manager under the same path. If you can't spot it straight away, type SIM Manager into the Settings search bar and it pops up right away.
Installing a HelloRoam eSIM on Samsung without scanning a QR code uses manual entry. Open Settings, then Connections, then SIM Manager, tap Add eSIM, and choose Enter activation code manually. Type the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your HelloRoam confirmation email. Both codes arrive in that one email within 5 minutes of purchase.
Samsung Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra all support dual eSIM, running two eSIM profiles at the same time with no physical SIM card needed. That's a great setup for Kiwi travellers heading to the UK or Japan who want their NZ number active while using a local travel data plan. An eSIM is not transferable between devices once installed, so manage both lines carefully at Settings > Connections > SIM Manager.
Four fixes to try when your Samsung won't read the eSIM QR code: update OneUI, confirm the phone is carrier-unlocked, clean the camera lens, and scan in good lighting at roughly 15 cm distance. If none of those work, switch to manual entry. Open SIM Manager, tap Add eSIM, choose Enter code manually, and type the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your HelloRoam email. HelloRoam support chat usually replies within 2 hours.
