Samsung Galaxy eSIM Setup, Step by Step

On a Samsung Galaxy, the HelloRoam eSIM goes in through Settings › Connections › SIM manager: tap Add eSIM › Scan QR code and scan the QR code from our email. It is about 2 minutes to install at home, and the line goes on once you land.

Open Settings › Connections, then tap SIM manager.
On older One UI versions, SIM manager may appear as 'SIM card manager' under Settings > Connections. Add eSIM may appear as 'Add mobile plan'. Other buttons may differ too, so follow the prompts on your screen.
Tap Add eSIM.
Tap Scan QR code to open the scanner.
Point your Galaxy camera at the QR code on your second screen.
Show the code on a bright screen and fit the whole code inside the box.
Wait while your Galaxy reads the code. It then asks if you want to add the eSIM.
When your Galaxy asks to add the eSIM, tap Add. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads, which can take a few minutes.
Tap eSIM 1 and name it HelloRoam. Then under Preferred SIM card, set Mobile data to HelloRoam.

When your Galaxy asks to add the eSIM, tap Add. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads, which can take a few minutes.
Tap eSIM 1 and name it HelloRoam. Then under Preferred SIM card, set Mobile data to HelloRoam.

Tap Add eSIM.
Tap Scan QR code. The scanner opens, but you will not scan.
On the scanner screen, tap Enter activation code.
Copy the full activation code from your HelloRoam email and paste it into the field. Submit it and wait a moment. The code looks like this: LPA:1$operator.com$ABCDE-12345
Paste, do not type. One wrong character and the code is refused.
When your Galaxy asks to add the eSIM, tap Add. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads.
Tap eSIM 1 and name it HelloRoam. Then set Mobile data to HelloRoam.

How to activate your eSIM on Samsung Galaxy

When you land, switch on the HelloRoam line in SIM manager, then in Mobile Networks turn Data roaming on for HelloRoam and off for SIM 1, your home SIM.

Open Settings, tap Connections, then tap SIM manager to locate your installed HelloRoam eSIM profile.
Switch on the HelloRoam line. Then in Mobile Networks, turn on Data roaming.
On some US carrier phones, this switch is called Data Roaming Access.
In Mobile Networks, pick SIM 1, your home SIM. Switch off Data roaming. Your home telco then cannot charge you for roaming.
Your eSIM is active. Open any app to confirm you have a working data connection.

Good to know

Switch on Airplane mode first, then turn on Wi-Fi. This stops your home carrier (Singtel, StarHub, or M1) from charging roaming fees.
Wait until you land at your destination before activating. The eSIM needs a local network signal to connect.

Check the status bar. You should see at least one signal bar next to your HelloRoam line.

Open Settings › Connections › Mobile Networks. Check that Data roaming is on for HelloRoam.

Which Samsung Galaxy models support eSIM?

The Galaxy S20 to S26 series appear on Samsung's eSIM list, together with the S25 Edge and all FE models from the S23 FE to the S26 FE. The list also has every foldable, from the first Galaxy Fold and Z Flip to the Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Flip8, Z Flip7 FE and Z TriFold, and the Note 20 series in the US. Galaxy A models with eSIM are the A57, A56, A55, A54 and A37, some only in specific regions, plus cellular Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S10 and Tab S11 tablets. According to Samsung, country of origin can still exclude eSIM, so check SIM manager for Add eSIM before purchasing a HelloRoam plan.

Where is SIM manager on Samsung Galaxy?

Samsung Galaxy SIM manager sits at Settings > Connections > SIM manager on most Galaxy phones. On older One UI versions, it may show as SIM card manager under the same path. If you cannot find it, type SIM manager into the Settings search bar and it appears within seconds.

Can I install eSIM on Samsung without QR code?

Yes. Manual entry lets you add a HelloRoam eSIM on Samsung with no QR code. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager, then tap Add eSIM, Scan QR code and Enter activation code in turn. Paste in the complete activation code from your HelloRoam confirmation email and tap Add. The email reaches your inbox within 5 minutes of purchase.

Does Samsung Galaxy S24 support dual eSIM?

The Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra support Dual SIM, pairing one physical SIM with one eSIM in what Samsung calls Hybrid eSIM. The S25 and S26 series work the same way. Keep your home SIM in the tray and add HelloRoam as the eSIM, so your home number stays active while HelloRoam handles your data abroad. Manage both lines at Settings > Connections > SIM manager.

Why is my Samsung not reading the eSIM QR code?

When a Samsung will not read the eSIM QR code, four fixes usually help: update One UI, make sure the phone is carrier-unlocked, wipe the camera lens, and scan in good light from about 15 cm. Should none of them work, add the eSIM by hand instead: in SIM manager, tap Add eSIM, then Scan QR code, then Enter activation code, and paste the activation code from your HelloRoam email. If manual entry fails as well, email help@helloroam.com.

Which Samsung phones do not support eSIM?

These Galaxy phones take two physical SIM cards and sit outside Samsung's eSIM list: the S20 FE, S21 FE, A02, A03, A12, A13 LTE, A13 5G, A14 5G, A15 5G, A32 5G, A42 5G, A52 5G and A53 5G. Samsung lists these as Dual Physical SIM models in the US. Samsung also notes that a model on its eSIM list can still miss eSIM, depending on the country of origin. To check your own phone, open Settings > Connections > SIM manager. If Add eSIM shows up, it can take a HelloRoam eSIM. If it does not, that phone cannot add an eSIM.

How do I transfer eSIM from iPhone to Samsung?

You cannot transfer a HelloRoam eSIM from your iPhone to a Samsung device once it is installed. Scanning the QR code again on the Samsung does not work, and your phone's own transfer feature does not work for it either. Do not delete the eSIM from your iPhone. Before it first connects to a network your plan covers at your destination, email help@helloroam.com. Installing it at home does not count as that first connection. We can issue a new eSIM for your Samsung. If we do, add it on the Samsung at Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM. After that first connection, its code cannot be used again. We do not issue a new one for a change of phone.

My Samsung shows 'European SIM card only'. Can I still use eSIM?

It varies by handset, so check your Samsung before you buy a plan. Samsung notes that eSIM may not be supported on some listed Galaxy models, depending on their country of origin. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager. If Add eSIM is there, your HelloRoam eSIM can be installed on it. If it is not, this phone cannot take an eSIM.

Which Galaxy A phones have eSIM?

Samsung's eSIM list names the Galaxy A57, A56, A55 and A37 with no region limit. The A54 has eSIM only in Europe, North America, Korea and Japan, and the A36 and A35 only in Europe, North America and Korea. The A27, A26, A17 5G and A16 5G have eSIM only in North America, and the A25 5G and A23 5G only in Japan. Older models such as the A15 5G and A53 5G use two physical SIM cards instead. To check your own Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > SIM manager and look for Add eSIM.

How do I check eSIM data usage on a Samsung Galaxy?

Open Settings, tap Connections, then Data usage, and tap Mobile data usage to see which apps use the most data. Your Galaxy counts from the start of the billing cycle you set under Billing cycle and data warning, not from the day your HelloRoam plan started. To see how much data your plan has left, open the HelloRoam app and check the My eSIM tab.
