How to Activate eSIM on Samsung Galaxy

Your Samsung Galaxy takes a HelloRoam eSIM through Settings › Connections › SIM card manager: tap Add eSIM › Scan carrier QR code, then scan the QR code from your confirmation email. It's about 2 minutes at home, and you switch it on once you've landed.

Open Settings › Connections, then tap SIM card manager.
On some Galaxy phones, Add eSIM appears as 'Add mobile plan'. Other buttons can differ too, so follow the prompts on your screen.
Tap Add eSIM.
Tap Scan carrier QR code to open the scanner.
Point your Galaxy camera at the QR code on your second screen.
Show the code on a bright screen and fit the whole code inside the box.
Wait while your Galaxy reads the code. It then asks if you want to add the eSIM.
Tap Add. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads, which can take a few minutes.
Tap eSIM 1 and name it HelloRoam. Then under Preferred SIM card, set Mobile Data to HelloRoam.

Tap Add. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads, which can take a few minutes.

Open Settings › Connections › SIM card manager.
On some Galaxy phones, Add eSIM appears as 'Add mobile plan'. Other buttons can differ too, so follow the prompts on your screen.
Tap Add eSIM.
Tap Scan carrier QR code. The scanner opens, but you won't scan.
On the scanner screen, tap Enter activation code.
Copy the full activation code from your HelloRoam email and paste it into the field. Submit it and wait a moment. Your code looks like this: LPA:1$operator.com$ABCDE-12345
Paste, don't type. One wrong character and the code gets refused.
When your Galaxy asks to add the eSIM, tap Add. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads.
Tap eSIM 1 and name it HelloRoam. Then set Mobile Data to HelloRoam.

How to activate your eSIM on Samsung Galaxy

When you land, switch on the HelloRoam line in SIM card manager, then in Mobile networks turn Data roaming on for HelloRoam and off for SIM 1, your home SIM.

Open Settings, tap Connections, then tap SIM card manager to find your installed HelloRoam eSIM profile.
Switch on the HelloRoam line. Then in Mobile networks, turn on Data roaming.
On some US carrier phones, this switch is labelled Data Roaming Access.
In Mobile networks, pick SIM 1, your home SIM. Switch off Data roaming. Your home provider then can't charge you for roaming.
Your eSIM is live. Open any app to check you're pulling data from the local network.

Good to know

Put your phone on Flight mode first, then join Wi-Fi. This keeps your Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone AU plan from racking up data charges overseas.
Wait until you land at your destination before activating. The eSIM needs a local network to latch onto.

4 Check · Signal and data

Make sure your Galaxy eSIM is working

Two quick checks:

Check the status bar. You should see at least one signal bar next to your HelloRoam line.

Open Settings › Connections › Mobile networks. Check that Data roaming is on for HelloRoam.

Which Samsung Galaxy models support eSIM?

Samsung's official eSIM list starts at the Galaxy S20 and goes through to the S26 series, taking in the S25 Edge and the S23 FE to S26 FE. Foldables are on it too, from the first Galaxy Fold and Z Flip right up to the Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Flip8, Z Flip7 FE and Z TriFold, and Samsung US adds the Note 20 series. The Galaxy A models on the list are the A57, A56, A55, A54 and A37, some of them in certain regions only, and cellular Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S10 and Tab S11 tablets have eSIM as well. Even a listed model can miss out depending on its country of origin, Samsung says, so look for Add eSIM in SIM card manager before you buy a plan.

Where is SIM manager on Samsung Galaxy?

Samsung Galaxy SIM manager sits under Settings > Connections. Samsung Australia's own guide calls it SIM card manager, and some One UI versions show it as SIM manager in the same spot. Can't find it? Type SIM into the Settings search bar and it turns up straight away.

Can I install eSIM on Samsung without a QR code?

Yes, manual entry means no QR code is needed. Head to Settings > Connections > SIM card manager, tap Add eSIM, then Scan carrier QR code, then Enter activation code. Copy the full activation code from your HelloRoam confirmation email, paste it in and tap Add. That email lands within 5 minutes of buying your plan.

Does Samsung Galaxy S24 support dual eSIM?

All three S24 models, the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra, run Dual SIM with one physical SIM and one eSIM, which Samsung calls Hybrid eSIM, and the S25 and S26 series do the same. Leave your Telstra, Optus or Vodafone AU SIM in the tray and add HelloRoam as the eSIM, so your number keeps working while HelloRoam looks after data abroad. Both lines live under Settings > Connections > SIM card manager.

Why is my Samsung not reading the eSIM QR code?

Try these four fixes when your Samsung won't read the eSIM QR code: update One UI, check the phone is carrier-unlocked, give the camera lens a clean, and scan in good light from about 15 cm away. Still no luck? Use manual entry instead: open SIM card manager, tap Add eSIM, tap Scan carrier QR code, then tap Enter activation code, and paste in the full activation code from your HelloRoam email. If that fails too, email help@helloroam.com.

Which Samsung phones do not support eSIM?

These Galaxy phones take two physical SIM cards and don't appear on Samsung's eSIM list: the S20 FE, S21 FE, A02, A03, A12, A13 LTE, A13 5G, A14 5G, A15 5G, A32 5G, A42 5G, A52 5G and A53 5G. Samsung US calls them Dual Physical SIM models. Samsung also says a phone on its eSIM list can still miss out, depending on its country of origin. To check your own Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > SIM card manager. See Add eSIM there? It can take a HelloRoam eSIM. No Add eSIM? That phone can't add one.

How do I transfer eSIM from iPhone to Samsung?

You can't move a HelloRoam eSIM from iPhone to Samsung once it's installed. Scanning the QR code again on the Samsung won't work, and neither will the phone's own transfer feature. Don't delete the eSIM from your iPhone. Before it first connects to a network your plan covers at your destination, email help@helloroam.com. Installing it at home doesn't count as that connection. We can issue you a new eSIM. If we do, add it on the Samsung at Settings > Connections > SIM card manager > Add eSIM. After that first connection, the original eSIM's code can't be used again, and we don't issue a new one just because you've switched phones.

My Samsung shows 'European SIM card only'. Can I still use eSIM?

Only if SIM card manager offers Add eSIM, so check before you buy a plan. Samsung says the country of origin can rule out eSIM even on a phone its own list names. Open Settings > Connections > SIM card manager on your Galaxy. See Add eSIM? You can install your HelloRoam eSIM there. No Add eSIM? That phone can't take one.

Which Galaxy A phones have eSIM?

Samsung's eSIM list names the Galaxy A57, A56, A55 and A37 with no region limit. The A54 has eSIM only in Europe, North America, Korea and Japan, and the A36 and A35 only in Europe, North America and Korea. The A27, A26, A17 5G and A16 5G have eSIM only in North America, and the A25 5G and A23 5G only in Japan. Older models like the A15 5G and A53 5G take two physical SIM cards instead. To check your own Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > SIM card manager and look for Add eSIM.

How do I check eSIM data usage on a Samsung Galaxy?

Open Settings, tap Connections, then Data usage, and tap Mobile data usage to see which apps are using the most data. Your Galaxy counts from the start of the billing cycle you set under Billing cycle and data warning, not from the day your HelloRoam plan started. To see how much data your plan has left, open the HelloRoam app and check the My eSIM tab.
