Samsung Galaxy eSIM: How to Install and Set Up

Adding an eSIM to a Samsung Galaxy starts in Settings › Connections › SIM manager: tap Add eSIM › Scan QR code and point the camera at the QR code in your HelloRoam email. It takes about 2 minutes at home, and you switch it on after you land.

Open Settings › Connections, then tap SIM manager.
On older One UI versions, SIM manager may appear as 'SIM card manager', and Add eSIM may appear as 'Add mobile plan', followed by 'Add using QR code' or 'Add using activation code'.
Tap Add eSIM.
Tap Scan QR code to open the scanner.
Point your Galaxy camera at the QR code on your second screen.
Show the code on a bright screen and fit the whole code inside the box.
Wait while your Galaxy reads the code. It then asks if you want to add the eSIM.
Tap Add to add the eSIM. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads, which can take a few minutes.
Tap eSIM 1 and name it HelloRoam. Then under Preferred SIM card, set Mobile data to HelloRoam.

Use an activation code to add Galaxy eSIM

Open Settings › Connections › SIM manager.
On older One UI versions, SIM manager may appear as 'SIM card manager', and Add eSIM may appear as 'Add mobile plan', followed by 'Add using QR code' or 'Add using activation code'.
Tap Add eSIM.
Tap Scan QR code. The scanner opens, but you won't scan.
On the scanner screen, tap Enter activation code.
Copy the full activation code from your HelloRoam email and paste it into the field. Submit it and wait a moment. The code looks like this: LPA:1$operator.com$ABCDE-12345
Paste, do not type. One wrong character and the code is refused.
When your Galaxy asks to add the eSIM, tap Add. Stay on Wi-Fi while it downloads.
Tap eSIM 1 and name it HelloRoam. Then set Mobile data to HelloRoam.

How to activate your eSIM on Samsung Galaxy

When you land, switch on the HelloRoam line in SIM manager, then in Mobile networks turn Data roaming on for HelloRoam and off for SIM 1, your home SIM.

Open Settings, tap Connections, then tap SIM manager to find your installed HelloRoam eSIM profile.
Switch on the HelloRoam line. Then in Mobile networks, turn on Data roaming.
On some US carrier phones, this switch is called Data Roaming Access.
In Mobile networks, pick SIM 1, your home SIM. Switch off Data roaming. Your home network then can't charge you for roaming.
Your eSIM is active. Open any app to confirm you have a live data connection.

Good to know

Put the phone in flight mode first, then turn Wi-Fi back on. That way your home network (EE, Vodafone, O2 or Three) can't charge you roaming fees.
Wait until you land at your destination before activating. The eSIM needs a local network to connect to.

4 Check · Signal and data

Confirm the eSIM on your Galaxy is working

Two quick ways to check:

Check the status bar. You should see at least one signal bar next to your HelloRoam line.
Open Settings › Connections › Mobile networks. Check that Data roaming is on for HelloRoam.

Which Samsung Galaxy models support eSIM?

Samsung's official eSIM list covers the Galaxy S20 through S26 series, with the S25 Edge and every FE model from the S23 FE to the S26 FE. On the foldable side it runs from the first Galaxy Fold and Z Flip to the Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Flip8, Z Flip7 FE and Z TriFold, and Samsung US adds the Note 20 series. In the A range, eSIM comes on the A57, A56, A55, A54 and A37, some of them only in certain regions, and on cellular Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S10 and Tab S11 tablets. Samsung adds that a phone's country of origin can still rule eSIM out, so look for Add eSIM in SIM manager before buying a plan.

Where is SIM manager on Samsung Galaxy?

On most Galaxy phones you'll find SIM manager under Settings > Connections > SIM manager. Older One UI versions may call it SIM card manager, in the same place. If it's hiding, search SIM manager from the Settings search bar and it'll pop up straight away.

Can I install eSIM on Samsung without QR code?

It's possible, yes: type the details in by hand. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager and tap Add eSIM, followed by Scan QR code and Enter activation code. Copy the activation code in full from your HelloRoam confirmation email, paste it in and tap Add. That email usually arrives within a few minutes of payment.

Does Samsung Galaxy S24 support dual eSIM?

The Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra all run Dual SIM with one physical SIM and one eSIM, a setup Samsung calls Hybrid eSIM, and Samsung lists the S25 and S26 series the same way. Leave your home SIM in the tray and add HelloRoam as the eSIM: your number stays live for calls while HelloRoam takes care of data abroad. Both lines sit under Settings > Connections > SIM manager.

Why is my Samsung not reading the eSIM QR code?

Try these 4 fixes when your Samsung won't read the eSIM QR code: update One UI, check the phone is carrier-unlocked, give the camera lens a clean, and scan in good light from about 15 cm away. If none of that works, switch to manual entry instead. Open SIM manager, tap Add eSIM, tap Scan QR code, then tap Enter activation code. Paste in the full activation code from your HelloRoam email. If manual entry fails too, email help@helloroam.com.

Which Samsung phones do not support eSIM?

The following Galaxy phones use two physical SIM cards and are missing from Samsung's eSIM list: the S20 FE, S21 FE, A02, A03, A12, A13 LTE, A13 5G, A14 5G, A15 5G, A32 5G, A42 5G, A52 5G and A53 5G. Samsung US describes them as Dual Physical SIM models. It also warns that a phone on the eSIM list may still have no eSIM, depending on its country of origin. To check yours, go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager: Add eSIM there means it can take a HelloRoam eSIM, and no Add eSIM means it can't.

How do I transfer eSIM from iPhone to Samsung?

You cannot transfer a HelloRoam eSIM from an iPhone to a Samsung once it is installed. Scanning its QR code again on the Samsung will not work, and neither will the phone's own transfer feature. Do not delete the eSIM from the iPhone. Before its first connection to a network your plan covers at your destination, email help@helloroam.com. Installing it at home does not count as that connection. We can issue a new eSIM. If we do, add it on the Samsung at Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM. After that first connection, the code cannot be used again, and we do not issue a new one for a change of phone.

My Samsung shows 'European SIM card only'. Can I still use eSIM?

Check the handset first, because it varies. Samsung says eSIM may not be supported even on a Galaxy model it lists, depending on the country of origin. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager: if Add eSIM appears, you can install your HelloRoam eSIM there, and if it doesn't, this phone can't take an eSIM.

Which Galaxy A phones have eSIM?

Samsung's own eSIM list covers the Galaxy A57, A56, A55 and A37 everywhere, with no region limit. The A54 only has eSIM in Europe, North America, Korea and Japan, and the A36 and A35 only in Europe, North America and Korea. The A27, A26, A17 5G and A16 5G only get eSIM in North America, and the A25 5G and A23 5G only in Japan. Older models such as the A15 5G and A53 5G use two physical SIM cards instead. To check your own Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > SIM manager and look for Add eSIM.

How do I check eSIM data usage on a Samsung Galaxy?

Open Settings, tap Connections, then Data usage, and tap Mobile data usage to see which apps are using the most data. Your Galaxy counts from the start of the billing cycle you set under Billing cycle and data warning, not from the day your HelloRoam plan started. To see how much data your plan has left, open the HelloRoam app and check the My eSIM tab.
