Amsterdam has one of Europe's strongest urban mobile networks. KPN leads 5G deployment across the canal ring, Centrum, Oud-West, and the Zuidas business district. T-Mobile NL and Vodafone NL provide overlapping coverage across the full city.
Schiphol Airport has full 5G and 4G coverage throughout all terminals, gates, and the arrivals hall. The Amsterdam Centraal train station and surrounding streets have excellent signal. The metro system presents the main coverage gap: deep underground sections on lines 51, 53, and 54 have patchy signal, especially between Centraal and Nieuwmarkt in the tunnel. Above-ground and elevated metro sections have full coverage. Tram routes across the city maintain solid 4G throughout.
The Museumplein area (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk) has strong 5G. Vondelpark, the Jordaan canal streets, Leidseplein, and Rembrandtplein all have full coverage. The Red Light District and Nieuwmarkt square have reliable 4G and 5G. Anne Frank House and the narrow canal-side streets of the Grachtengordel have good outdoor signal. Indoor coverage in historic canal houses can be slightly weaker due to thick brick walls, but 4G is usable throughout.
The ferry across the IJ river to Amsterdam Noord is free and has 4G coverage for most of the short crossing. Noord neighborhoods including NDSM wharf and A'DAM Tower area have solid coverage. New Zealand travellers should confirm their handset is unlocked and supports local network bands.
