How should a digital nomad pick an eSIM?

Open the plan page for each country you will live in. A plan works only in the places it lists, so any gap shows up before you fly.

Help is there on the day you land
You might land at midnight with no data at all. Make sure support answers round the clock, not just during office hours.

Your phone must also support eSIM and be unlocked, which means it is not tied to one operator.⁽¹⁾ On iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About: No SIM Restrictions next to Network Provider Lock means it is unlocked.⁽⁴⁾ Check eSIM support on your phone before you choose a plan.

For a stay of months, buy your next plan before the current one ends

Our country plans last 7 or 30 days, and an unlimited plan runs for up to 30 days per purchase. The days start when the eSIM first connects at your destination, not when you install it. To stay on, buy the next plan before the end date.

In our app, Top up puts more data on the eSIM you already have, with no new QR code. You see it on the eSIM's card when the plan can take more data.

Use the app's top-up steps before the end date, because an expired eSIM cannot take a top-up. For more days, buy your next plan before that date: it arrives as a second eSIM with its own QR code. Install it on Wi-Fi and keep its line off, since its days start only when it first connects. When the first plan ends, switch on the new line and its data roaming, then choose it for mobile data.

Plan the first few weeks, not the whole year: buy for the first stretch, then buy the next plan once you know your real usage. Unlimited plans come with fair-use terms, so read them before a month of daily video calls.

Share data with your laptop

Your phone's hotspot shares its eSIM data with your laptop, a tablet or a friend's phone, which join it like any Wi-Fi network.⁽²⁾⁽³⁾ HelloRoam plans support hotspot where your phone allows it, and each device draws on the same plan. Calls, meetings and big files

Video calls run on local mobile networks, and speed changes from place to place and network to network. Not every destination has 5G. Move large uploads and system updates to Wi-Fi, and work out your call data before you pick a plan size.

Bank OTPs and your Indian number

Your Indian SIM keeps your number for calls, SMS and bank OTPs, while the travel eSIM carries your data. Our plans are data only, with no phone number of their own. WhatsApp keeps working on your Indian number over the eSIM's data.⁽⁵⁾

Cross borders on one regional eSIM, not a new SIM each time

A single-country plan works only inside that country. On a regional plan, the same eSIM keeps working as you cross between the countries it covers. That suits a base in one place with weekend trips next door.

Our Europe plan covers 33 destinations, Portugal and Spain among them, and our Asia plan covers 19, with Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. The Southeast Asia plan covers only Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, so read its list before you book Bali or Vietnam. Mexico sits on our North America plan, and Colombia and Costa Rica on our South America plan. Indian roaming packs expire, so plan renewals for a long stay

Indian operators sell IR packs that run for a set number of days, so a stay of months means a fresh recharge each time one ends.^(9)(10) TRAI says roaming charges vary from one provider to another, so check your own operator's terms first.⁽¹¹⁾

Buy a local prepaid SIM when you settle in one country

Months in one country can make a local operator's plan worth it, especially if you need a local number.⁽⁴⁾

Many local plans include a local phone number, and some local operators sell them as eSIMs.⁽⁴⁾ If you buy in a shop after landing, carry your passport: depending on local rules, you may be asked for ID.⁽⁴⁾

Questions Indian remote workers ask about eSIMs

What if the next country on my route is not on my eSIM plan?

Buy a plan for that country before you cross the border, because your eSIM works only in the countries its plan lists. A regional plan covers every country on its list. If your route spans regions, our global plan covers 127 destinations on one eSIM. Check the country list before you buy, and again before any side trip.

How do I keep mobile data going for 60 or 90 days abroad?

Buy a plan for your first month, then buy the next before it ends. The next plan is a new eSIM, so install it early and keep its line off until the first plan ends, as its days start at first connection. If data runs low, top up in the app before the end date, if the plan allows.

Can I rely on eSIM data for remote work abroad?

Yes, eSIM data can carry remote work as a backup line beside Wi-Fi. A travel eSIM runs on local mobile networks, and speed varies by place and network. Keep Wi-Fi for big uploads and long calls, and switch to the eSIM when Wi-Fi drops. Each destination page lists its networks, so check yours before you fly.

Can our company buy eSIMs for a remote team?
