Marrakech is best visited March through May and September through November. Temperatures are warm but manageable, 20C to 30C, ideal for exploring the medina souks, Djemaa el-Fna square, and the gardens of Majorelle and Menara. October is a local favorite: summer heat has faded, the Sahara day trips from Marrakech are fully accessible, and the city feels authentic after the school holiday rush. June, July, and August are extremely hot. Temperatures regularly hit 38C to 42C. Afternoon activity in the souks is possible but draining. Rooftop riads and shaded courtyard restaurants provide relief. The Atlas Mountains above 2,000m offer cooler air and hiking for those willing to drive 30 to 40 minutes from the city. December and January are mild (10C to 18C) and quiet. The medina is far less crowded, riad prices drop, and the Atlas Mountains receive snow. The Marrakech International Film Festival in late November attracts celebrities and film industry visitors to the Palmeraie resort area.
