Does T-Mobile Work in Europe? 2026 Plans, Coverage and Speeds

Yes. T-Mobile works across Europe, and its main postpaid plans include data there at no extra charge. T-Mobile's country pages show the same allowances in all 63 European countries and territories we checked. Experience Beyond gets 15GB of high-speed data, Experience More gets 5GB, and data then keeps working at up to 256 Kbps. Texts are free, and calls cost $0.50 a minute.

Need more data than your plan gives you? A HelloRoam Europe eSIM carries it on one plan across the 33 European countries and territories our plan catalog listed on November 4, 2026, while your T-Mobile number stays on for texts from home.

On November 3 and 4, 2026, we checked every carrier figure in this guide against T-Mobile's plan, country, pass, cruise and support pages and AT&T's and Verizon's pass pages. Plans and passes change, so check your own line in the T-Life app before you fly.

Two groups get less. Essentials lines get free texts and $0.50 calls in Europe, but no data unless you add an International Pass. Prepaid lines get no data roaming at all, and T-Mobile leaves pay-in-advance and No Credit Check plans out of its roaming benefit.

Your T-Mobile plan decides how much fast data you get in Europe

Here's what each plan gets in Europe, with the plans named the way T-Mobile names them on its country, plan and prepaid pages:

Better Value is the limited-time family plan T-Mobile launched in January 2026 for three or more lines. On the "Other T-Mobile plans" row, usage rounds up to the nearest MB each session, so check your plan's name in the T-Life app or at T-Mobile.com before you turn on data roaming.

T-Mobile's FAQs, including the one on every country page, also mention "up to 5GB of high-speed data in 11 European countries" without naming the countries, and its roaming page for customers lists that for Go5G and Magenta plans. The plan cards on the country pages show no high-speed data for Go5G, Magenta or One lines anywhere in Europe, so if that's your plan, ask T-Mobile which applies before you count on 5GB.

For the same plans outside Europe, including the bigger allowances Experience plans get in Mexico and Canada, see our guide to T-Mobile roaming worldwide.

Every European country we checked gets the same T-Mobile allowances

We opened T-Mobile's page for 63 European countries and territories, and each one listed the same five plan groups with the same data, texts and call rates. The list runs from Iceland and Norway to Turkey. It takes in the UK, Switzerland and the Balkan countries, small places like Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City and Gibraltar, and island groups such as the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores. Russia's page adds one catch: data and texting are restricted for 24 hours after you first connect to a Russian network, and T-Mobile's support page says data access there is inconsistent even after that.

None of the 21 places outside T-Mobile's roaming benefit is in Europe. T-Mobile still warns that high-speed allowances can vary by country and plan, and that it can't guarantee coverage on its partners' networks. Look up each stop on its international plans page before you go. You don't need to tell T-Mobile you're traveling: on qualifying plans, it says your phone just works when you arrive. A new phone or line must first register on T-Mobile's US network and make a call, and T-Mobile sends a free welcome text with your rates when you land.

Germany gets nothing extra, either. T-Mobile's name and magenta color are registered trademarks of Deutsche Telekom AG, but its Germany page lists the same allowances as its pages for Greece and Portugal.

T-Mobile data in Europe slows to 256 Kbps after your allowance

T-Mobile's country pages say roaming speeds and coverage vary by device and location, and its International Passes promise high-speed data "at up to LTE speeds." Once your plan's allowance is gone, data keeps working at up to 256 Kbps with no extra charge.

T-Mobile says 256 Kbps works well for browsing, email, social media and maps, while streaming music or video typically needs faster data. It texts you at 80% of your high-speed data and again when it runs out, with options to buy a pass. To see whether 5GB covers your trip, run your daily apps through our data usage calculator.

Your phone also has to work on T-Mobile's partner networks. T-Mobile says speeds and compatibility depend on those networks' frequencies, and each country page links to a device check.

Calls in Europe cost $0.50 a minute on T-Mobile, even the ones you answer

Texting is unlimited, but without an International Pass, every call you make or answer on a European network costs $0.50 a minute on postpaid plans. If your phone is on and a call goes to voicemail, T-Mobile still charges one minute, and checking voicemail from your phone is billed at the roaming rate.

Wi-Fi calls to US numbers are free, so your hotel's Wi-Fi is the cheap way to call home. An International Pass includes unlimited calling while it lasts. Stateside International Talk is a different add-on: it covers calls from the US, Mexico or Canada to other countries, not calls you make in Europe.

To call a local number, dial + and the country code first, such as +39 for Italy, +34 for Spain or +44 for the UK. Dial +1 and the area code to call home. In an emergency, T-Mobile says to dial 112 when you're traveling internationally. T-Mobile also texts you free when you start running up usage charges, and its care line, +1-505-998-3793, costs nothing to call from your phone wherever you are.

European ferries can switch your T-Mobile line to ship rates

Island hopping in Greece or sailing to Ireland? T-Mobile's cruise tool covers ferries too. We looked up five European ferries on it, from Blue Star Ferries and Minoan Ferries in Greece to Irish Ferries, DFDS and Corsica Ferries. Each one showed calls at $5.99 a minute, texts at $0.50 each to send, and no data.

T-Mobile's roaming checklist adds that your phone can still connect to a ship's network in port, and that Wi-Fi calls to non-US numbers are charged the ship rate. Before you board, search for your ship by name in T-Mobile's cruise tool. If you'd rather not risk the rates, keep the phone in airplane mode with Wi-Fi on until you're back on land.

International Passes add data and calls for a longer Europe trip

If your plan has no high-speed data in Europe, or not enough, an International Pass adds high-speed data and unlimited calling in 215+ countries and destinations. Only one pass can be active at a time, and starting a new one ends the old one.

  • 1 Day Pass: $10 for 2GB, for up to 24 hours
  • 10 Day Pass: $50 for 15GB, for up to 10 days
  • 30 Day Pass: $75 for 30GB, for up to 30 days

The FAQ on T-Mobile's country pages, its cruise page and its roaming page for customers describe the 1 Day Pass as 512MB for $5 instead, so check the price in T-Life before you buy.

Say you're on a One plan, which has no high-speed data in Europe, for a 28-day trip through several countries. One 30 Day Pass covers it with 30GB for $75, while three 10 Day Passes would cost $150. Taxes are extra. Other users on your account can buy their own pass with a credit card in T-Life or at My T-Mobile.

For comparison, AT&T's International Day Pass costs $12 a day for one line, and Verizon's TravelPass costs $12 a day per line. Over 14 days in one bill cycle, that's $120 for one AT&T line, which stops at 10 daily fees per line per bill cycle, and $168 plus taxes and fees on Verizon. Our explainer on what US carriers charge for roaming compares all three.

A travel eSIM can carry your Europe data while T-Mobile keeps your number

A pass isn't the only fix. Put your data on an eSIM for travel, and your T-Mobile line stays on for texts, bank codes included, while the eSIM handles maps, rail apps and messages. That suits Essentials, prepaid, Go5G, Magenta and One lines, and anyone who uses up 5GB. Our eSIM vs international phone plan comparison lays out the trade-offs.

A HelloRoam Europe plan covers every EU country plus the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Gibraltar. That's the list our plan catalog showed on November 4, 2026, and coverage can change, so check the plan page before you buy. It doesn't cover Turkey, the Balkan countries outside the EU, Monaco, Andorra or San Marino. T-Mobile's roaming does, so for those stops, use your plan's allowance or a pass. If you'd also like a French number, our guide to Orange's travel eSIM for Europe compares it with US carrier plans.

We sell travel eSIMs, so weigh our view with that in mind. Our editorial policy explains how we handle the conflict of interest.

Make sure your phone is unlocked, check that it supports eSIM, and install the eSIM over Wi-Fi before you fly. Once you land, set up the two lines like this:

  • On iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data and pick the travel line. Then turn on Data Roaming for that line in its Cellular Data Options.
  • Leave Allow Cellular Data Switching off. Apple's Dual SIM guide says turning it on lets your iPhone use cellular data from both plans.
  • Each iPhone line has its own Data Roaming switch, so you can leave it off on your T-Mobile line.
  • On a phone with one Data Roaming switch for both lines, such as many Samsung Galaxy models, leave it on. Turning it off would cut the travel eSIM's data too.

Questions travelers ask

Do you need to turn on data roaming in Europe with T-Mobile?

Yes, to use data. T-Mobile says you may need to turn on Data Roaming. On iPhone it's in Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options, and on a Samsung Galaxy it's Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Data Roaming Access. T-Mobile's #RON# code is different: where your plan or pass doesn't include data, it turns on data you pay for as you use it, and #ROF# turns that back off.

Can I use my T-Mobile phone in France?

Yes. France is on T-Mobile's included list, and its France page shows the same allowances as the rest of Europe: 15GB of high-speed data on Experience Beyond, 5GB on Experience More, unlimited texts and calls at $0.50 a minute. To call a French number, dial +33 first.

What countries are free with T-Mobile?

On qualifying postpaid plans, T-Mobile includes data and texting at no extra charge in 215+ countries and destinations. Calls there cost $0.50 a minute, except in Mexico and Canada, where calls are included and Experience plans get more high-speed data. Its support page lists 21 places outside that benefit, such as Cuba, Lebanon and Namibia, where passes don't work either.
