Sudan has two main mobile operators: MTN Sudan and Zain Sudan, with Sudani (part of Sudan Telecom) as a third provider. HelloRoam eSIMs connect via partner networks where available.
4G coverage in Sudan is concentrated in Khartoum and its twin cities of Omdurman and Khartoum North. Wad Madani, Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast, and a few other regional capitals have 4G in city centers. Outside these areas, 3G and 2G are the main network types.
The Meroe pyramids site, located about 200 km north of Khartoum, has variable 3G signal. The Nile Valley towns between Khartoum and Meroe, including Shendi, have limited 3G. The Nubian desert and the Bayuda Desert have very sparse coverage on main roads. Port Sudan and the Red Sea Hills region have improving 4G as infrastructure investment continues.
Travel to Sudan is subject to ongoing political developments. Download offline maps of Khartoum and the Meroe road corridor before any journey outside the capital.
