Honolulu and Oahu have two informal seasons. The dry season runs May through September, with temperatures 27C to 32C and less rainfall. Waikiki Beach and the North Shore beaches at Sunset and Banzai Pipeline are most accessible. June through August is peak tourist season with maximum hotel rates and most crowded beaches. April and May offer warm weather before peak summer with lower prices. The wet season runs November through March. Rain falls more frequently, especially on the windward (east) side of Oahu. Temperatures are mild, around 23C to 27C. The North Shore's massive winter surf peaks December through February and draws professional surfers and crowds to the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. Honolulu Marathon in December is one of the largest in the world with over 20,000 runners. January is generally the wettest month but rarely sees full-day rain. Shoulder periods in April and October offer the best value on accommodation and fewer crowds at popular beaches.
