Buenos Aires has 4G LTE coverage across all major barrios. The city centre (Microcentro), Puerto Madero waterfront, Palermo, Recoleta, San Telmo, and La Boca all have solid outdoor 4G from multiple operators. Claro Argentina has the widest 4G footprint in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA). Movistar and Personal provide strong coverage in the central barrios and expand into the wider conurbano.
Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) has 4G in the terminal buildings and parking areas. Jorge Newbery Airport (AEP), the domestic airport in the city itself, also has 4G. The Buenos Aires Subte (metro) has spotty signal in the deeper underground sections. Lines A, B, D, and E lose signal on longer underground stretches, while Lines C and H near the surface have more consistent 4G. Aboveground BRT and bus corridors in the city have full 4G.
The Buenos Aires Premetro tram and suburban rail stations (Mitre, Sarmiento, Roca lines) have 4G at all major stations. Trendy barrios like Palermo Soho, Palermo Hollywood, Villa Crespo, and Chacarita have reliable 4G for navigation and social media. Gran Buenos Aires suburban areas have variable quality, with the main GBA corridors covered and outer pockets having weaker signal.
5G rollout in Buenos Aires began in 2024 but remains limited to select city-centre areas. Most travellers will be on 4G LTE for the duration of a Buenos Aires visit. New Zealand travellers should confirm their handset is unlocked and supports local network bands.
