Osaka has two popular travel windows. Cherry blossom season from late March through early April draws visitors to Osaka Castle Park and Kema Sakuranomiya Park. The timing shifts slightly each year based on temperatures; the Japan Meteorological Corporation publishes annual bloom forecasts. Crowds at Osaka Castle and the Dotonbori area are at their highest during cherry blossom peak. June and July bring tsuyu (the rainy season) with frequent rain and humidity. The Tenjin Matsuri festival on July 24 and 25 is one of Japan's top three festivals. Processions along the Okawa River and Tenma Shrine are spectacular. August is hot and very humid, 32C to 35C, with the Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival in late July and early August drawing 500,000 viewers to the riverside. Autumn (late October to mid-December) is excellent for travel. Temperatures are comfortable, 14C to 20C, and the Minoh Park waterfall trails and Katsuo-ji temple grounds turn vivid red and orange. December and January are cold (4C to 10C) with smaller crowds at Namba and Shinsaibashi.
