eSIM Travel Tips for Samoa
Set up your eSIM before you fly to Samoa
Install your HelloRoam eSIM profile at home before departing for Samoa. When you land at Faleolo Airport, enable data roaming and you are connected immediately. Local SIM options in Samoa are limited outside Apia.
Download offline maps for remote beaches
Samoa's beautiful beaches and coastal resorts can have limited signal away from main roads. Download offline maps for Upolu and Savai'i before arrival. GPS navigation works without any mobile connection.
Plan for limited connectivity on Savai'i
Savai'i, the larger island, has less coverage than Upolu. If you are visiting remote parts of Savai'i including lava fields and interior rainforests, expect limited or no signal. Download guides and directions before you cross the strait by ferry.
Keep your home SIM for international calls
On a dual-SIM phone, keep your home SIM active for calls and texts back home. Use HelloRoam for data access in Apia and covered areas. Your home number stays reachable.
Know the Samoan emergency number
In Samoa, call 994 for police and 995 for fire and rescue. Save these before departure. Emergency calls work on any available network even without active data.
Mobile Networks in Samoa: What You Need to Know
Samoa is served by Digicel Samoa and Vodafone Samoa, with Digicel providing the wider coverage footprint. 4G is available in Apia and main population centers on Upolu. Savai'i has coverage in towns like Salelologa and Fagamalo. Rural areas, interior forest, and remote beaches have limited or no signal. On a trip to Europe, my hotel Wi-Fi was so slow and outside Wi-Fi was unreliable. I couldn’t take it anymore so I got helloroam for a few days. It was tricky to set up correctly because of the primary settings (with my original number). But I reached out to their customer service via WhatsApp. Super responsive and helpful, with specific and clear steps to troubleshoot. Appreciate having 4G roaming instead of being stuck with in and out Wi-Fi during my trip!!

Very good experience! The eSIM was easy to set up and worked great in London. It was much cheaper than it would have been to use my own operator there.
