Best Time to Visit Papeete
Papeete and Tahiti have two seasons. The dry season from May through October is cooler, less humid, and ideal for most visitors. Temperatures range from 24C to 29C. Water visibility for snorkeling and diving around Moorea and Bora Bora is at its clearest in these months. The Heiva I Tahiti festival in July is French Polynesia's most important cultural celebration, featuring traditional dance, music, sports, and artisan competitions that run for the full month. Bastille Day on July 14 adds fireworks and French-Polynesian celebrations to the calendar. The wet season runs November through April. Temperatures are higher, 27C to 32C, humidity increases, and heavy tropical rain is common. February has the most rainfall. Cyclones are rare but possible from November through April. The wet season is also the time when Polynesian outrigger canoe races take place on the Papeete waterfront. Accommodation and flights are generally cheaper during the wet season, making it attractive for budget-conscious travelers.
