Senegal has three mobile carriers: Orange Senegal (Sonatel), Expresso Senegal (part of Sudatel Group), and Free Senegal (a newer entrant). Orange Senegal, part of the Orange Africa group, has the widest coverage and the strongest 4G LTE network. HelloRoam plans connect via Orange and Expresso.
Dakar, the capital, has excellent 4G coverage across all districts including the Plateau, Almadies, Ouakam, and the airport area. Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport (DSS) and the newer Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS/AIBD) are both well covered.
Saint-Louis, the colonial-era UNESCO-listed city in the north, has solid 4G in the city. Touba, Kaolack, Ziguinchor, and other regional capitals have 4G coverage in their centers.
The Casamance region in southern Senegal, separated from the north by The Gambia, has coverage in Ziguinchor but weaker signal in rural and forest areas. The Sine-Saloum Delta, a popular eco-tourism destination of mangroves and islands, has coverage in larger town centers. Remote lodge islands in the delta may rely on satellite connectivity.
The Pink Lake (Lac Rose, or Retba) near Dakar has 4G coverage. The beaches along the Petite Côte south of Dakar, including Saly, have solid signal. Ferry routes across the Casamance River have coverage near ports. Australian travellers should confirm their handset is unlocked and supports the local network bands.
