eSIM does not run on every phone. The chip must be built into the handset at the factory. eSIM compatible phones include iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and Google Pixel 2 and newer. Budget Android models and phones made before 2018 simply don't have the hardware. HelloRoam works on any eSIM supported phone that is carrier-unlocked and running a current OS version.
Your phone shows eSIM compatibility through its settings. On iPhone, open Settings, tap General, then About, and look for an EID number. On Android, dial *#06# and check whether an EID appears next to your IMEI. An EID confirms the chip is present. Your handset also needs to be carrier-unlocked, not tied to Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone AU, to install a HelloRoam plan.
Old phones cannot use eSIM because the technology requires a dedicated chip built into the device at the factory. Phones released before 2018, including iPhone X and earlier and Samsung Galaxy S10 and earlier, don't have this chip. No software update can add it. To use HelloRoam, you need an e-sim compatible phone from 2018 or later.
iPhones support eSIM from the XS, XS Max, and XR released in September 2018. Every iPhone 11 through 16 model and the SE (2020 and 2022) include eSIM. iPhone X, 8, 7, and 6 have no eSIM hardware. iPhones bought in mainland China lack eSIM on all models. Your iPhone must run iOS 12.1 or later and not be locked to Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone AU to load a HelloRoam plan.
Google Pixel supports eSIM on every model from the Pixel 2 through the Pixel 10, including the Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro series. The GSMA, which sets global eSIM standards, certifies Pixel phones for eSIM use. Pixel 7 and newer can run two eSIMs at once without a physical SIM card. Your Pixel must be carrier-unlocked and not tied to Telstra or Optus to load a HelloRoam travel plan.
The Honor 200 Lite does not support eSIM. Honor limits eSIM to a small number of flagship models sold outside mainland China. Budget and mid-range Honor phones, including the 200 Lite, use a physical SIM card only. If you're heading to Bali or Japan and need data, you'll need an eSIM compatible handset. The Honor 50 does not support eSIM in most markets. Honor reserves eSIM for select premium models sold outside China. The Honor 50 uses a dual physical SIM tray. If you're travelling to Thailand, Fiji, or New Zealand and need data abroad, you'll need an e SIM compatible device to load a HelloRoam plan.
iPhone 13 supports eSIM on every variant, including the 13 mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max. Apple made the iPhone 13 the first model to run two active eSIMs at once with no physical SIM card needed. HelloRoam plans work on iPhone 13 across 185+ countries. Your iPhone 13 must not be locked to Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone AU to install a third-party eSIM.
iPhone supports eSIM from the XS, XS Max, and XR released in September 2018. Every iPhone model since then supports eSIM, covering the full iPhone 11 through 16 range. Apple built eSIM into iPhone following GSMA embedded SIM standards. Your iPhone must run iOS 12.1 or later and be carrier-unlocked, not tied to Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone AU, to use HelloRoam.
The Oppo Reno 14 supports eSIM on its global variant. Oppo has added eSIM to select flagship and mid-range models from 2021 onwards. Chinese domestic versions typically leave eSIM out. If you have the international Reno 14, you can pair it with a HelloRoam plan for your next trip to Bali, Vietnam, or Europe. Always confirm your regional model number before buying a plan.
The LG V40 ThinQ does not support eSIM. LG only added eSIM hardware to a handful of models tied to specific US carriers. Most LG phones released before the brand exited smartphones in 2021 use a physical SIM only. If the V40 is your current phone, you'll need to upgrade to an eSIM-ready device to use HelloRoam.
Your phone is eSIM compatible if an EID number appears in its settings. On iPhone, check Settings, General, About, and look for EID.
